Washington, June 22:
U.S. Vice President JD Vance has revealed fresh details about ongoing negotiations with Iran, saying diplomatic and technical teams are continuing discussions aimed at restoring transparency around Iran’s nuclear activities and reducing regional tensions.
According to Vance, officials worked late into the night to maintain communication channels with international inspectors, while experts from both sides held technical discussions in Switzerland. The talks are focused on building confidence and establishing mechanisms for monitoring future commitments.
A key element under discussion is a proposal backed by Qatar that would allow access to certain frozen Iranian assets under strict oversight. The funds would be earmarked exclusively for humanitarian purchases, including food, medicine, and essential agricultural imports, ensuring they are used for civilian needs.
The negotiations are also addressing broader regional security concerns and efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. While several issues remain unresolved, officials describe the latest discussions as constructive, with further meetings expected in the coming days.
