Hanoi, April 22:
Vietnam’s top leader To Lam is set to host South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday, marking their second meeting in less than a year, as Hanoi intensifies efforts to accelerate its high-tech ambitions.
The high-level talks come at a time when Vietnam is looking to deepen economic cooperation with South Korea, its largest foreign investor. Officials say the discussions will focus on boosting collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing.
Vietnam has been actively positioning itself as a regional hub for electronics and chip production, seeking to attract more South Korean investment and expertise. Leading Korean firms already have a strong footprint in the country, and Hanoi hopes to expand partnerships into more technology-intensive sectors.
Analysts note that strengthening ties with Seoul could help Vietnam move up the global value chain, reduce reliance on low-cost manufacturing, and enhance its competitiveness in emerging industries.
The meeting is also expected to cover broader strategic cooperation, including trade expansion, supply chain resilience, and innovation-driven growth, reflecting the growing importance of Vietnam–South Korea relations in Asia’s economic landscape.
