Chinese automaker Geely will begin exporting Lotus electric vehicles to Canada in July, marking the first deliveries under a recently announced Canada–China trade arrangement.
The announcement was made by China's ambassador to Canada, who said the initial shipment represents a new phase in automotive trade between the two countries. The vehicles are expected to arrive in Canada next month, with an official launch planned after delivery.
The agreement allows Chinese-made electric vehicles to enter the Canadian market under a revised import framework aimed at expanding consumer choice and supporting the country's transition to cleaner transportation.
Canadian officials have said the policy is intended to strengthen trade ties while encouraging investment in the electric vehicle sector. Industry observers believe the move could open the door for more Chinese EV brands to enter the Canadian market in the coming months.
The development comes as global automakers compete to expand their presence in the fast-growing EV market, with Canada seeking to diversify its supply chain and accelerate electric mobility.
