Beijing: China’s power generation continued to grow steadily during the first five months of 2026, reflecting rising energy demand across the country.
Official data released on Tuesday showed that major power producers generated 3.91 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity between January and May, marking a 3.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
In May alone, electricity production reached 784.3 billion kWh, registering a 4.2 percent year-on-year rise. The increase highlights sustained industrial activity and growing power consumption across various sectors of the economy.
Energy analysts say the growth was supported by stable power supply operations and continued demand from manufacturing, infrastructure projects, and expanding digital industries.
China remains the world’s largest producer and consumer of electricity, with authorities continuing efforts to strengthen energy security while expanding renewable energy capacity alongside conventional power sources.
