Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has defended President Donald Trump’s proposed agreement with Iran, saying the initiative goes beyond direct relations with Tehran and focuses on reducing violence across the Middle East.
Rubio stated that lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved while armed groups backed by Iran continue carrying out missile, drone, and other attacks. He argued that any effort to stabilise the region must address the activities of organisations that receive support from Tehran.
According to Rubio, the framework seeks to reduce regional tensions by curbing proxy warfare and encouraging a broader end to hostilities. He maintained that peace and security depend on preventing armed groups from carrying out attacks that threaten neighbouring countries and regional stability.
His remarks come as discussions continue over the future of US-Iran relations and broader efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.
