New Delhi, June 12:
Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad has accused the BJP of attempting to engineer defections from opposition parties through what he described as “Operation Lotus,” alleging that efforts were being made to influence lawmakers ahead of crucial political developments.
In a post on social media platform X, Azad referred to recent meetings involving opposition and BJP leaders, claiming they were part of a broader strategy to persuade MPs to switch loyalties. He alleged that the initiative was being directed under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The TMC leader said attempts to win over opposition MPs had not succeeded so far. He further alleged that pressure was being exerted on him through the withdrawal of security personnel and other measures. According to Azad, he had received multiple calls from BJP MPs and party functionaries but remained firm in his political position.
The allegations come amid heightened political activity following recent Rajya Sabha developments. Opposition parties have repeatedly accused the BJP of trying to weaken rival formations through inducements and political pressure, while the BJP has consistently rejected such claims, maintaining that leaders joining the party do so voluntarily.
