Hyderabad, June 25:
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the state government will provide accident insurance coverage to government employees, describing the initiative as a major step towards ensuring employee welfare and financial security.
Addressing a gathering at Ravindra Bharathi, the Chief Minister said the decision was inspired by the successful implementation of a ₹1 crore insurance scheme for Singareni workers. He recalled that he was initially skeptical about providing such coverage without employees paying a premium, but the scheme proved its effectiveness when the families of 45 Singareni workers who died in accidents received the insurance benefits.
“Accident insurance gives confidence and financial security to employees’ families during difficult times. The government, as the employer, has a responsibility to protect its workforce,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister also signed an agreement with bankers to extend accident insurance coverage to state government employees. He emphasized that while condolences often follow a tragedy, meaningful financial support is what truly helps bereaved families.
Referring to criticism from political opponents, Revanth Reddy said he takes pride in being called a “group mason,” adding that the people and government employees are his greatest strength. “This group is my identity and my bridge to the people,” he remarked.
The CM accused the previous government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao of burdening Telangana with debts exceeding ₹8.11 lakh crore over a decade and claimed that his administration inherited severe financial challenges. Despite this, he said the government has ensured timely salary payments on the first day of every month and is releasing retirement benefits in phases as promised.
Calling government employees the backbone of governance, Revanth Reddy urged them to work an extra hour each day to help improve state revenues and accelerate development. He said increased revenue would enable the government to address employee needs more effectively.
Highlighting the state's long-term vision, the Chief Minister reiterated his goal of transforming Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2034. He stressed that maintaining law and order, attracting investments, and successfully implementing welfare schemes would require the collective efforts of government employees and the administration.
Reaffirming his commitment to public servants, Revanth Reddy said the government would continue to stand by employees working for the welfare and development of Telangana.
