Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated the ‘Aditya’ complex at BEML’s Tippasandra campus in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The newly established facility is dedicated to the manufacturing of high-speed rail components, marking a significant step in strengthening indigenous engineering capabilities. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted that high-speed rail technology is highly complex and its development within the country represents a major milestone.
The Aditya complex is currently designed for the production of B-28 coaches, aimed at supporting next-generation rail infrastructure. Emphasizing the impact of high-speed rail connectivity, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that major cities in southern India will soon function as interconnected hubs.
He noted that the travel time between Chennai and Bengaluru is expected to reduce to just 73 minutes, significantly enhancing regional mobility. The Minister also announced improvements in connectivity between Mumbai and Bengaluru, including the introduction of a new Mail Express service with LHB coaches via Hubli, and the upcoming launch of a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. On regional connectivity, he confirmed that the Vande Bharat service between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will be launched soon. He added that the project includes connectivity to Madgaon and other coastal cities of Karnataka.
Key technical challenges, such as electrification of the Hassan–Mangaluru section and installation of Automated Emergency Braking systems, have been successfully addressed. Concluding his visit, the Minister praised the engineering expertise at the Tippasandra facility and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure while ensuring environmental sustainability.
