Milk for the Needy, Not for Cutouts: Telangana Congress Issues Stern Directive

TPCC cracks down on political extravagance, banning milk abhishekams and JCB garlands in Telangana and urging leaders to choose public service over publicity stunts.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has taken a significant step towards promoting simplicity and social responsibility in party activities by banning milk abhishekams, water offerings to flex banners and cut-outs of leaders, and the use of JCBs and bulldozers for placing giant garlands during party events.

The circular, issued by TPCC Vice-President T. Kumar Rao, stated that the decision was taken following the directions of Telangana Congress in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and under the guidance of TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud. The party emphasized that such practices do not align with the values and principles of the Congress.

Highlighting concerns over food and nutrition challenges faced by many people in the country, the TPCC noted that wasting milk for ceremonial purposes goes against the party's commitment to social welfare and public service. Instead, party workers have been encouraged to organize community service activities such as food distribution and welfare programmes for the needy.

The Congress leadership also discouraged the growing trend of using heavy machinery like JCBs and bulldozers to honour leaders with oversized garlands during public meetings and visits. The party called for a focus on humility, people-centric politics and meaningful public engagement rather than extravagant displays.

With grand political celebrations becoming increasingly common across parties, the TPCC's decision is being viewed as an effort to reinforce the values of simplicity, service and responsible political culture.
