Hyderabad | April 29:

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed irrigation officials to accelerate the execution of the Tummidihatti barrage as part of the Pranahita–Chevella project, underlining its strategic importance for the state’s water security.

Chairing a high-level review at the MCRHRD Institute of Telangana, the Chief Minister assessed the current status, financial outlay, and future roadmap of the project. Officials informed that nearly ₹11,000 crore has already been spent, with canal works completed in several stretches

Engineering experts suggested that, in coordination with Maharashtra, constructing a barrage at a height of 150 meters at Tummidihatti could enable utilization of at least 100 TMC of water. They emphasized that this height offers a balanced approach by minimizing submergence in Maharashtra while ensuring cost-effective water diversion.

Highlighting the need for inter-state cooperation, the Chief Minister instructed immediate engagement with the Maharashtra government. He also advised Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy to seek the support of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy by writing to him for facilitating discussions and resolution..

Separately, the CM Revanth  Reddy reviewed the rehabilitation efforts of the Medigadda Barrage and directed officials to expedite ongoing geo-testing works as part of restoration measures. He stressed that delays in critical irrigation projects would not be tolerated and called for strict adherence to timelines.
