Hyderabad: A dangerous heatwave has tightened its grip over South India, with temperatures in Hyderabad soaring past 43°C. The weather department has classified the situation as severe and issued urgent warnings for residents to remain cautious. The unusually intense heat in mid-April is already disrupting daily life.

Several regions across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are witnessing a steady rise in temperatures. Streets are largely deserted during peak afternoon hours as people avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary. Hospitals are reporting an increase in heatstroke and dehydration cases, raising public health concerns.

According to meteorological officials, there is little to no relief expected over the next 5 to 7 days. The period between 12 PM and 4 PM is considered particularly dangerous for outdoor exposure. Authorities have begun taking precautionary measures, including adjusting school timings and limiting outdoor labor activities.

Health experts are advising people to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid direct sunlight. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions are at higher risk and are urged to take extra precautions during this extreme weather.

Meanwhile, the surge in temperatures has also led to a spike in electricity demand, causing intermittent power outages in several areas. Government agencies and local administrations are on high alert, but if temperatures continue to climb, the situation could become even more critical in the coming days.
