HANGZHOU, China: An AI-powered traffic policing robot was deployed near a Gaokao examination centre in Hangzhou, eastern China’s Zhejiang Province, to help maintain a calm and orderly environment for students appearing in the country’s highly competitive national college entrance examination. The robotic traffic officer was stationed outside the exam venue on Monday as authorities stepped up measures to reduce noise and congestion.
Equipped with visual recognition technology and intelligent traffic-management systems, the robot monitored road conditions and reminded motorists not to use their horns near the examination centre. It also guided cyclists and other non-motorized vehicles away from traffic violations, helping ensure smoother movement around the venue.
The robot interacted with pedestrians and students through voice messages, offering good wishes to exam candidates while promoting road-safety awareness. Authorities said the deployment was aimed at creating a quiet and stress-free environment for students during one of the most important academic events in China.
China has increasingly introduced AI-powered robotic officers for traffic management and public-service duties in several cities. The use of such technology reflects the country’s broader push to integrate artificial intelligence into everyday governance and urban management.
