Moscow Under Drone Siege: Putin’s Grip Faces Fresh Pressure

Ukraine’s massive drone assault on Moscow sends shockwaves through Russia as Rick Wilson warns Putin’s grip on power could face growing internal pressure.

Breaking News

Moscow: Ukraine has unleashed one of its biggest drone offensives of the war, sending hundreds of drones toward Moscow and surrounding Russian regions in a dramatic escalation that is bringing the war directly to the doorstep of Vladimir Putin’s regime. Russian authorities said around 600 drones were detected heading toward the Moscow region, while casualties were reported across the wider attack.

The unprecedented scale of the assault is intensifying questions over Russia’s ability to protect its capital and critical infrastructure. Ukrainian strikes have increasingly reached deep inside Russian territory, targeting military-linked facilities, logistics networks and major economic infrastructure.

The attack has also triggered fierce political rhetoric in the West. Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson claimed on X that Moscow was “burning” and warned that Putin could face growing pressure from within his own system. Wilson went as far as suggesting Putin was “one day closer to being murdered by his own men,” portraying the escalating war as a potential threat to the Russian leader’s grip on power.

Wilson’s remarks are political commentary, not evidence of an imminent internal coup or assassination plot. But the latest drone offensive highlights a growing strategic problem for the Kremlin: the longer the war continues, the harder it becomes to keep the conflict away from ordinary Russians and shield Moscow from the consequences of the fighting.

With Ukraine rapidly expanding its long-range drone capabilities and repeatedly striking targets deep inside Russia, the psychological battle is intensifying alongside the military one. For Putin, the message is increasingly stark: the war he launched is no longer confined to Ukraine—and pressure on the Kremlin is growing.
