Spain Declares National Emergency as Wildfires Force 10,000 to Evacuate Near Madrid

Spain declared a national emergency after massive wildfires near Madrid forced around 10,000 people to evacuate. A severe heatwave and strong winds continue to fuel the blazes

Breaking News

Madrid: Spain has declared a national emergency after devastating wildfires swept through the country's central region, forcing around 10,000 residents to flee their homes near Madrid.

The emergency declaration places Spain's Interior Ministry in charge of coordinating firefighting operations, with national police and security forces assisting regional authorities battling multiple blazes.

The fires have been intensified by an intense heatwave, dry conditions, and strong winds, making it difficult for firefighters to contain the rapidly spreading flames. Emergency teams, helicopters, and aircraft have been deployed across the affected areas to protect communities and prevent further damage.

Authorities have evacuated thousands of people from high-risk zones as a precaution, while temporary shelters have been set up for displaced families. Officials have urged residents to follow evacuation orders and avoid travel in affected regions.

The latest wildfires are part of a broader wave of extreme weather impacting southern Europe, where soaring temperatures have significantly increased the risk of forest fires. Emergency services remain on high alert as weather conditions continue to fuel the blazes.

No official reports of fatalities have been confirmed so far, but authorities warn that the situation remains critical, with firefighters continuing efforts to bring the fires under control.
