South Central Railway has achieved a major freight milestone with the successful loading of the first-ever container rake of Pig Iron from Veldurthi Goods Shed, recently notified as an Exclusive Container Rail Terminal .
The inaugural rake, carrying 2,760 tonnes of Pig Iron, was dispatched to the Inland Container Depot at Phillaur, Punjab, strengthening multimodal logistics and enhancing rail connectivity between industrial hubs. Notified as Hyderabad Division's first ECRT on 10 June 2026, Veldurthi Goods Shed has become the first and only goods shed in the reorganised SCR Zone to transport Pig Iron in containers, expanding the Zone's freight portfolio and creating new opportunities for the steel industry. The movement generated an estimated ₹59 lakh in freight revenue, highlighting the terminal's potential to attract high-value cargo.
To sustain freight growth, CONCOR has committed to operating three container rakes every month from the terminal, boosting regional economic activity and providing cost-effective logistics solutions. Congratulating the Hyderabad Division, SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava commended the successful addition of a new freight stream and urged officials to maintain the momentum in strengthening South Central Railway's freight performance.
