Washington/Tehran, June 27:
The United States has carried out a new round of airstrikes on Iranian military targets following an alleged Iranian drone attack on a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, according to international media reports.
US officials said the operation targeted missile launch sites, drone storage facilities and coastal radar installations, describing the strikes as a defensive response aimed at protecting international shipping and ensuring freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.
Iran strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of its sovereignty, and warned that it would respond at a time and place of its choosing. Iranian officials also accused Washington of escalating tensions in the region.
The latest exchange has renewed concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route through which a significant share of the world's oil exports passes. Analysts warn that any prolonged confrontation could disrupt maritime trade and increase volatility in global energy markets.
Both sides have continued to exchange strong warnings, raising fears of a wider regional escalation as the international community urges restraint.
