Kerala,Kozhikode June 12
A Nipah virus infection has been confirmed in a patient from Kozhikode, prompting health authorities to intensify surveillance and containment measures across the region. The infected patient is reported to be in critical condition and is receiving specialized treatment under strict medical supervision.
According to health officials, contact tracing efforts have identified 77 individuals who may have been exposed to the patient. Medical teams have begun monitoring all identified contacts to prevent any further spread of the deadly zoonotic virus
Among those traced, 15 people have been classified as high-risk contacts and have been placed under quarantine. Authorities are conducting regular health assessments and have advised those under observation to immediately report any symptoms such as fever, headache, respiratory distress, or encephalitis-like conditions.
The Kerala Health Department has urged the public to remain calm while following precautionary guidelines. Surveillance has been strengthened in affected areas, hospitals have been placed on alert, and rapid response teams are working to contain the situation and prevent community transmission of the virus.
