A massive fire triggered by a transformer explosion ripped through a congested residential pocket in Laxmi Nagar on Saturday, leaving at least 14 people injured and causing significant damage to nearby buildings. Thick plumes of smoke engulfed the area, triggering panic among residents as flames spread rapidly through closely packed structures.

According to officials from the Delhi Fire Service, the blaze broke out in the early hours after a high-voltage transformer reportedly exploded, setting adjacent buildings on fire. Firefighters rushed to the scene with multiple fire tenders and battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control.

Authorities confirmed that 14 people sustained injuries, mostly due to burns and suffocation caused by dense smoke. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where a few are said to be in critical condition. Emergency teams also evacuated several families from affected buildings to prevent further

casualties.Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with residents scrambling to escape as fire spread rapidly through narrow lanes. Locals alleged that delayed maintenance of electrical infrastructure could have contributed to the transformer failure, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause.

Police have cordoned off the area, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the origin of the fire. Civic authorities have also begun assessing structural damage to buildings, many of which suffered cracked walls and charred interiors due to the intense heat.

This incident once again raises concerns over fire safety and infrastructure upkeep in densely populated areas of Delhi, where aging electrical systems and congested layouts continue to pose serious risks.
