Kolkata | April 23, 2026:
Tensions escalated in poll-bound West Bengal on Wednesday as workers of two regional political parties clashed following an explosion that left a woman injured the previous night. According to local reports, the blast occurred late on April 22 in a residential area, triggering panic among residents.
The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion, but initial suspicions point toward crude explosives.
The incident quickly took a political turn, with party workers from rival groups engaging in heated confrontations and street clashes on April 23. Eyewitnesses reported stone-pelting and scuffles in parts of the area, prompting police intervention to restore order.
Security has since been tightened in the region, with additional forces deployed to prevent further escalation. Officials said the situation is now under control, though tensions remain high as the state prepares for upcoming elections.
Police have launched an investigation into both the explosion and the subsequent violence. No arrests have been confirmed so far, but authorities indicated that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
