BREAKING NEWS

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake has struck Japan, triggering widespread alarm and prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning for coastal areas of northern Japan, including Hokkaido and parts of the Amami island chain.

According to early seismic reports, the tremor occurred offshore and was felt strongly across northern and eastern regions of Japan. Residents reported violent shaking lasting several seconds, forcing people to evacuate buildings and rush to higher ground in affected coastal zones.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency immediately issued tsunami alerts, warning that hazardous waves could reach vulnerable coastal belts within minutes to hours following the quake. Emergency sirens were activated in multiple towns, and evacuation orders were swiftly enforced in low-lying areas.

Authorities have not yet confirmed major casualties or structural damage, but transport services, including rail and ferry operations, have been temporarily suspended as a precaution. Emergency response teams have been deployed to monitor sea levels and assess infrastructure safety.

Officials continue to urge residents in coastal regions of Hokkaido and the Amami area to remain on high alert and avoid returning to coastal zones until the tsunami warning is officially lifted, as aftershocks remain a serious concern.
