Russia launched nearly 800 drones across Ukraine in one of the largest aerial attacks of the war, just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly discussed prospects for ending the conflict. 

Ukrainian officials said the large-scale assault targeted multiple cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, and Lviv. Air defense systems intercepted many of the drones, but several strikes caused damage to residential buildings, transport infrastructure, and energy facilities. Casualties were reported, with emergency teams deployed to affected areas.

The attack came as diplomatic efforts appeared to gain momentum following recent remarks from both Putin and Trump suggesting that a negotiated settlement remained possible. The scale of Wednesday’s assault, however, highlighted the continuing intensity of the war despite public talk of peace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, accusing Moscow of escalating attacks on civilians while presenting itself as open to negotiations. He urged Ukraine’s allies to strengthen military support and maintain pressure on Russia.

The latest drone offensive underscores the deep divide between diplomatic messaging and battlefield actions. As international leaders discuss possible pathways to peace, Ukraine continues to face some of the heaviest aerial bombardments since the war began.
