Washington, April 23
: Donald Trump has announced a sharp escalation in maritime security measures, stating that he has directed the United States Navy to take immediate and decisive action against any vessels suspected of laying mines in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The statement was made via his platform Truth Social.
In his message, Trump ordered naval forces to “shoot and kill” any boats engaged in mine-laying activities, stressing that there should be “no hesitation” in responding to perceived threats. He also claimed that hostile naval assets had already been neutralized, asserting that numerous enemy vessels were “at the bottom of the sea,” though no independent verification of this claim has been confirmed.
president further revealed that U.S. mine countermeasure operations are currently underway in the region, with naval “sweepers” actively working to clear the waters. He instructed that these operations be intensified significantly, calling for efforts to be increased to “a tripled up level” to ensure safe passage through one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical artery for global energy supplies, and any escalation in military activity there raises concerns about regional stability and the potential impact on international trade and oil markets. Analysts are closely monitoring developments as tensions in the region continue to evolve.
