Bengaluru, April 22:
On the occasion of World Earth Day, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar called for collective action to safeguard the environment, stressing that protecting the planet is a shared responsibility and not merely a choice.
In a message marking the global environmental observance, Shivakumar highlighted the urgent need for awareness and proactive efforts to preserve natural resources. “The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we live on must be carefully protected and preserved for future generations,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged citizens to adopt sustainable practices and demonstrate greater responsibility in their daily lives. He emphasized that environmental conservation requires not just policy-level action but also individual commitment from every section of society.
Reiterating the importance of unity in tackling environmental challenges, Shivakumar noted that Earth Day serves as a reminder that humanity shares a single home. He called for stronger dedication to protecting ecosystems, reducing pollution, and ensuring a greener future.
Observed globally on April 22 each year, Earth Day promotes environmental awareness and action, with governments and citizens alike participating in initiatives aimed at sustainability and climate protection.
