Lucknow: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has offered to join hands with the Samajwadi Party (SP) for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, saying opposition unity is essential to defeat the BJP. Addressing a public meeting in Moradabad,

Owaisi urged SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to avoid a split in anti-BJP votes, warning that a divided opposition would only benefit the ruling party. He said political parties should come together before the elections rather than regret the outcome afterward.

The proposal has triggered fresh political speculation ahead of the state elections. However, the Samajwadi Party has not yet responded officially to Owaisi's offer, leaving uncertainty over whether the opposition alliance will take shape.

Political observers believe the AIMIM chief's statement could intensify discussions on opposition unity in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP, SP and other regional parties are preparing for a high-stakes electoral contest.
