New Delhi, June 23: Union Minister of State George Kurian has stepped down from the Union Cabinet after the completion of his Rajya Sabha tenure. His resignation was accepted by the President following the recommendation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kurian's exit comes after his term in the Upper House ended and he was not nominated for another term. As ministers are generally required to be members of Parliament, his departure from the Rajya Sabha led to his resignation from the ministerial post.
senior BJP leader from Kerala, Kurian served as Minister of State handling key portfolios and was considered an important representative from the state in the Union government.
After resigning, Kurian expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the BJP leadership for entrusting him with ministerial responsibilities.
