Noida International Airport Inaugurated: Mayawati Claims Credit, Slams Past Governments

 After years of anticipation, the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar was officially inaugurated on Saturday, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development. Reacting to the development, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati stated that the project’s foundation, planning, and key groundwork were initiated during her tenure under the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government. She emphasized that critical infrastructure steps for the airport had already begun while her administration was in power. Mayawati further alleged that delays in the project were caused by the then Indian National Congress-led central government, which, according to her, created obstacles that slowed progress. She claimed that, had there been no such hurdles, the airport project—like the Yamuna Expressway—could have been completed much earlier during her tenure. Taking aim at the Samajwadi Party government, Mayawati accused it of neglecting development priorities. She alleged that instead of focusing on reducing poverty and backwardness in Uttar Pradesh, the government spent significant time reversing key welfare initiatives introduced by the BSP. She also criticized what she described as politically motivated actions, including renaming institutions and neglecting memorials, parks, and public infrastructure dedicated to prominent social reformers and leaders from marginalized communities. The Noida International Airport, once fully operational, is expected to become one of India’s largest aviation hubs, boosting connectivity, trade, and economic growth in the region.
