New Delhi: Tensions flared in the national capital on Monday after police stopped a student protest march towards Parliament over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including paper leaks. Police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters after they attempted to move past barricades.
The protest, organised by CJP, drew thousands of students and young people demanding accountability over repeated examination controversies. Demonstrators called for strict action against those responsible for paper leaks and sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the issue.
As protesters marched from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, police intervened, leading to clashes and a brief period of unrest. Authorities later dispersed the crowd using force after the situation escalated.
Reacting to the incident, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticised the police action, saying students protesting for their rights should not be treated like criminals. He described the use of force against demonstrators as undemocratic and contrary to democratic values.
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that repeated examination leaks had affected the future of millions of students and accused the Centre of failing to hold those responsible accountable. The government has not yet issued a detailed response to his remarks.
