The Telangana High Court has denied interim anticipatory bail to Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Home Ministry Assistant Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in connection with a case registered under the POCSO Act, marking a significant setback for the accused in the ongoing legal battle.
The petition, argued by senior counsel Niranjan Reddy, sought immediate protection from arrest, claiming inconsistencies in the complaint and raising doubts over the timeline of the alleged incident. However, the court was not convinced to grant any temporary relief at this stage.
During the hearing, the defence strongly questioned the delay in filing the complaint, pointing out that the FIR was lodged nearly four and a half months after the alleged incident. It was also argued that the victim’s conduct, including alleged phone conversations and chats with the accused after the incident date, raised questions over the prosecution’s version of events.
The defence further submitted references to call records, chats, and photographs, claiming they indicated continued communication between the parties. It was also argued that multiple individuals were present during the alleged incident at a farmhouse, as mentioned in the complaint, adding further complexity to the case narrative.
After considering the arguments, the bench of the Telangana High Court refused to grant interim anticipatory bail, observing the seriousness of the allegations under the POCSO Act. The court has directed that the matter will continue to be heard in due course, as investigations proceed.
