New Delhi: The Central government has stepped up enforcement of its "One Officer, One Car" policy, aiming to curb the use of multiple official vehicles by bureaucrats holding additional charges or responsibilities.
Under the revised implementation, officers will be permitted to use only one government vehicle, irrespective of the number of departments or assignments they handle. The move is intended to improve administrative efficiency, reduce unnecessary expenditure, and ensure responsible use of public resources
. Departments have been asked to review vehicle allocations and withdraw extra vehicles assigned to individual officers. The reclaimed vehicles are expected to be redistributed based on operational needs, helping optimise government resources.
Officials have also been instructed to maintain stricter oversight of government vehicle usage through regular monitoring and accountability measures. The initiative is part of a broader push to streamline government operations and promote fiscal discipline across departments.
