New Delhi: In a major move aimed at restoring confidence in India's examination process, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a high-level committee to recommend sweeping reforms to the country's exam system

. The decision comes after weeks of nationwide student protests over alleged paper leaks, irregularities and demands for greater transparency in competitive examinations.

The expert panel will review the existing examination framework and suggest measures to improve security, fairness, transparency and the use of technology in conducting exams. It will also recommend steps to strengthen institutions responsible for national-level entrance and recruitment tests.

The Centre has indicated that stricter safeguards and stronger legal measures against exam-related fraud will be introduced as part of the reform process. Officials say the objective is to ensure that examinations remain credible and merit-based.

The government's announcement follows extensive consultations with stakeholders after student groups called for systemic changes to prevent future irregularities. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations in the coming months, paving the way for a comprehensive overhaul of India's examination system.
