Hyderabad: In a strong show of solidarity with students protesting in Delhi, the Telangana Congress on Saturday organized a massive candlelight march in Hyderabad, condemning the alleged police lathi-charge on students and demanding justice.
Held on the All India Congress Committee (AICC)'s nationwide call, the rally began at People's Plaza on Necklace Road and concluded at the Indira Gandhi statue. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, cabinet ministers, senior Congress leaders, and hundreds of youth participated in the protest.
Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy declared that the youth's struggle had forced the nation to listen, describing Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation as a "historic victory for Generation Z."
"The courage of students has shaken the establishment. This is not just a political victory but a victory of India's youth," the Chief Minister said.
Launching a sharp attack on the Centre, Revanth demanded the immediate withdrawal of all police cases filed against protesting students and sought adequate compensation for the families of students who lost their lives during the agitation.
In a major political announcement, the Chief Minister said the Telangana Assembly would pass a resolution urging the Centre to reduce the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 to 21 years, arguing that young Indians deserve a greater role in shaping the country's future.
Reiterating the Congress party's commitment to youth empowerment, Revanth Reddy said India's future rests in the hands of its young generation and assured that the Congress would continue to stand firmly with students and their aspirations.
The candlelight march witnessed significant participation from Congress workers, student groups, and young supporters, turning the event into a major political demonstration against the Centre's handling of the student protests.
