Hyderabad, July 25

:A massive candlelight rally organised by the Congress in Hyderabad to protest the alleged police lathi-charge on students at Delhi's Jantar Mantar turned tense after police reportedly baton-charged Congress workers following the departure of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

The protest, held in solidarity with students demonstrating over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and related issues, was attended by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, ministers, MLAs and senior Congress leaders. Addressing the gathering, the leaders strongly condemned the police action against students in Delhi

According to preliminary reports, as the Chief Minister was leaving the venue, groups of youth suddenly moved towards the exit area, prompting security personnel to intervene. Fearing the situation could spiral out of control, police attempted to disperse the crowd.

During the commotion, several Youth Congress leaders and Congress workers were allegedly detained and beaten with lathis. Party sources claimed that a District Congress Committee (DCC) president was also among those affected. A Youth Congress leader reportedly sustained serious injuries in the police action.

After being informed about the incident, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is said to have expressed strong displeasure and directed senior police officials to take immediate action against those responsible for the alleged lathi-charge.

The incident has triggered sharp criticism from Congress leaders, who accused the police of using excessive force against party workers participating in a peaceful protest. Police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
