Rangareddy, April 13: Tension prevailed in Hyderabad’s Haiderguda area of Rangareddy district as farmers staged a protest under the banner “Fight for Justice,” opposing the proposed Gandhi Sarovar project.

The agitation was led by farmers and victims along the Musi river who alleged that the project would displace them from their ancestral lands.

According to the protesting farmers, nearly 32 acres of land belonging to 68 families are expected to be affected under the project. They expressed deep concern over losing their livelihoods and accused the authorities of attempting to acquire land without offering fair and adequate compensation.

The protest witnessed participation from political leaders, including Konda Vishweshwar Reddy of the BJP and BRS Rajendranagar in-charge Karthik Reddy, who extended their support to the agitating farmers. They criticized the Congress government, alleging that it is taking away land from poor farmers to benefit influential groups.

Speaking at the protest, the leaders stated that farmers do not oppose land acquisition for genuine public infrastructure projects such as roads. However, they questioned the intent behind acquiring fertile agricultural land for other purposes under the guise of development.

The protesters demanded that the government ensure transparency in the Gandhi Sarovar project and provide proper rehabilitation. They insisted that farmers who lose their land should be compensated with alternative land in Rajendranagar itself, warning that the agitation would intensify if their demands are not addressed.
