New Delhi: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has recalled an amusing moment from her visit to India, saying the streets of Delhi were filled with posters carrying her photograph, making it feel like she was contesting an election.
Sharing the anecdote in her newly released book, Giorgia's Vision, Meloni said welcome posters greeted her across the city upon arrival, while farewell posters thanking her for visiting India appeared before she left.
She added that Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, who accompanied her during the visit, joked that she could easily win a massive number of votes if she ever stood for election in Delhi after seeing the widespread display of posters.
Meloni visited India twice in 2023—first for an international policy conference and later to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit. Her book reflects on those visits and other diplomatic experiences with world leaders.
