Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated that China and the United States can achieve lasting prosperity and security by working together rather than confronting one another.
Quoting an ancient Chinese saying — “All living things may grow side by side without harming one another, and different roads may run in parallel without interfering with one another” — Xi said countries with different systems and paths can coexist peacefully and pursue mutual development.
Xi emphasized that the people of China and the United States are both great peoples with the ability to contribute positively to global stability and economic growth. He said the “great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” and President Donald Trump’s vision to “Make America Great Again” are not mutually exclusive.
The two countries can help each other succeed and work together to improve the well-being of people around the world,” Xi said, stressing the importance of dialogue, respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.
His remarks come at a time when the world’s two largest economies are seeking to manage differences while expanding cooperation in trade, investment and global security issues. Analysts say constructive engagement between Beijing and Washington is crucial for maintaining international peace and economic stability.
