Vladimir Putin on Friday issued a cautious statement regarding a potential ceasefire, emphasizing that any halt in hostilities must be backed by “real guarantees” and not just political declarations. Speaking during a high-level security meeting in Moscow, Putin said Russia is open to a ceasefire only if it ensures long-term stability and addresses the root causes of the conflict. He stressed that temporary pauses without concrete commitments would only allow opposing forces to regroup and prolong the crisis. “Russia supports peace efforts,” Putin stated, “but not at the cost of strategic security or national interests. Any agreement must be comprehensive and enforceable.”

Key Points from Putin’s Statement:

Russia is willing to consider a ceasefire under strict conditions Demands legally binding guarantees from all parties Warns against “symbolic” or short-term ceasefire arrangements Reiterates that military objectives remain unchanged until a credible deal is reached

The Russian leader also criticized Western nations, accusing them of fueling instability through continued military support to opposing forces. He argued that such actions undermine diplomatic efforts and complicate negotiations.

Putin’s remarks come amid renewed international pressure to de-escalate tensions and push toward a broader peace agreement. However, his insistence on firm conditions suggests that any immediate ceasefire deal remains uncertain.
