Kolkata, April 24, 2026:

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that corruption and divisive politics under the All India Trinamool Congress created conditions that helped the Bharatiya Janata Party expand its presence in West Bengal.

Speaking during an election campaign, Gandhi said that alleged graft and increasing political polarisation weakened governance in the state, allowing rival forces to gain ground. He argued that such trends damaged institutions and shifted focus away from development and public welfare

. The Congress leader also targeted both the TMC and the BJP, accusing them of prioritising power struggles over key issues like jobs, economic growth, and social harmony. He claimed that voters are gradually becoming disenchanted with both parties and are seeking a credible alternative.

His remarks come at a time when West Bengal’s political atmosphere remains charged, with campaigning intensifying amid reports of clashes and heightened rhetoric. The state is witnessing a closely watched electoral contest, with multiple parties attempting to shape the narrative around governance and accountability.
