During Assam election campaigning, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren criticizes the BJP’s double engine government, raising concerns over tea workers’ wages and living conditions.

Elections

Guwahati, Assam: Amid the ongoing political heat ahead of the Assam polls, Hemant Soren launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, questioning the effectiveness of its much-touted “double engine government” model, particularly in addressing the concerns of tea garden workers. Addressing a public gathering, Soren alleged that despite both the state and central governments being led by the BJP, the socio-economic condition of tea workers in Assam has seen little improvement. He pointed out issues such as low wages, lack of healthcare access, and inadequate housing facilities that continue to plague the community. The Jharkhand Chief Minister emphasized that tea workers form the backbone of Assam’s economy and deserve better living standards and fair compensation. He further accused the BJP of making repeated promises during elections but failing to deliver meaningful change on the ground. The “double engine government” narrative, often highlighted by the BJP to showcase coordinated governance between the Centre and states, has come under scrutiny by opposition leaders during the campaign. With Assam heading into a crucial electoral battle, the welfare of tea garden workers has once again emerged as a key political issue, drawing attention from both ruling and opposition parties.
