Hyderabad: With the onset of the Shravan month, the festive spirit has begun. There is confusion among devotees regarding the Varalakshmi Vratam, which women observe with great devotion, about whether it will be on August 21 or August 28 this year.
According to the Telugu Panchangam and Agama Shastras, it is traditionally observed on the Friday before the Shravan Purnima. Therefore, the mention of two dates is due to the timing of the vratam, and experts in Dharma Shastra suggest that devotees should decide the date based on their family traditions, the guidance of their gurus, or local temple priests. However, this time, differing opinions are emerging regarding the date due to the occurrence of five Fridays in the Shravan month.
According to scholars, since the Purnima tithi will continue in the morning on August 28, those performing the vratam in the morning are advised to observe the Varalakshmi Vratam on that day as per scriptures. At the same time, those following the tradition of conducting the vratam in the evening are suggested to observe it on August 21, as the Purnima tithi will not be present in the evening.
